Frequently Asked Questions In The World of Energy Healing

How does energy healing work? What is the difference between energy healers? Are there different schools of thought? Different paths to healing others? Are some more effective than others? Are there rules and guidelines that healers follow?

Energy healing is something we ALL can do or at least learn to do to some extent. Its like being psychic, we all have intuition, right? That's the basic psychic skill, if you will. Some never go past the basic skill, others develop their psychic skills a great deal and still others seem to be born with it 'turned up high' whether they want it or not. Don't you feel better just being around certain people? That's energy at work. That's someone's good energy working on you while you are standing next to them.

Healing works a lot like light, water and air. Energy will take the path of least resistance, like water; fill a room, like air and light. Hence how it can be blocked. You can breath in the energy, it can permeate your being and we are always connected to It through our energetic umbilical cords called 'chakras'. These need to be open and balanced in order to maintain health.

Ritual is what separates good healers from other good healers. That's all. How they go about things. What they do first, if they use crystals, or music, or tibetan singing bowls. Their gift will have their own packaging, so to speak. What separates good healers from bad healers is what separates any professional from another - their willingness to do their own work. Ever see a hairdresser with ratty dry hair? I certainly have and I would never let her cut MY hair, that's for sure!! Would you go to a dentist with bad teeth? A doctor who smokes?

You will find in the healing community what you find in other health related communities...a lot of people who want to work on helping others to avoid working on their own issues. The greatest healers have tamed their ego. A jealous healer (one without a tamed ego) will set things up to be a heirarchy or competition. Can you imagine the Dali Lama doing such a thing? No. A healthy energy healer will say things like "Let us see if we are in good harmony."; or "Yes, I can work with another healer with you" (after engaging with that other healer to see if the energy connection is right); or maybe even tell you, after the initial evaluation, "I don't think that I am the right healer for you."

A healer does not manipulate the energy for healing, but  rather facilitates the flow of it. A healer sees herself as a vessel that the energy works through, and she allows it to decide what needs to be done. She does everything she can to make sure the vessel (herself) is as healthy and 'clean' as possible.

Schools of thought? Yes there are many. People will brag about their credentials like many other professionals. They will try to discount those who have less education and training. (This to me, is insecurity.) However, this negates the intuitive; The natural born healer. The one born with it 'turned up high'. I am an Intuitive Healer. While I did study and have training (credentials) in many forms of energy healing, I didn't learn to do energy healing with my mind. I learned with my heart how to control what I was born with. I was doing the well-guarded secret techniques of Reiki Masters instinctively. Something I didn't even realize until I went to Reiki classes and found I was already doing all the things they were teaching. Those who's egos are caught up in credentials are practicing the manipulation of energy healing rather than the facilitation of it.

Many people like to feel special and this usually translates into wanting to feel superior to others. So they talk about this or that 'Master" that they learned from. Or the kind of Reiki (Usui) that has a long history. There are parts that are kept 'secret' unless you pay big money to be a Master (Reiki III). What they are telling you is that they learned someone else's techniques. Dr. Usui is one of the developers of Reiki as it is known and taught now. He didn't just learn someone ancient well-established techniques, he also developed his own from his intuition and his own innate abilities. He was someone born with it 'turned up high'.

The truth is that we are all special. We are not special because we are better than others. We are special because we are unique.

Would you rather be worked on by someone who merely learned his techniques and is mimicking them or a modern day Dr. Usui who is listening to his/her own inner self and is intuitively operating under their authentic power? Some people will resonate better with those who are reproducing the age old techniques. They will find comfort in that. Others will resonate better with healers like me. They are not better or worse than another, they are just different. If you are not comfortable with your healer, your healing will not be as beneficial as it could be.

Energy is about connection. Connection to the Source and connection to each other. No one can 'learn' that. No one can 'teach' that. You HAVE to feel it. Some Joe Schmo can go to every Reiki training there is and have all the credentials, but if their heart isn't connected to Source, if they don't do their own work then the energy healing will either contain their 'litter' and they will transfer it to you, or at best they will be ineffective.

Energy is vibration and we all are at different frequencies (think radio). Some healers and clients will not be a good match (I'm talking about healthy healers here) because their vibrational frequencies don't match. No, that's not accurate. Its not that they won't be a good match, because a good healer (one who is connected to Source and works on their own stuff so that they are at optimum health) will be a good match for anyone, however a different good healer might have a better connection with some clients than another healer might. Much like two doctor's with the same knowledge but you prefer one's bedside manner, office staff and decor over another doctor's. So, like that radio, some stations might come in clearer than others. So it is with healers. You may feel a stronger clearer connection to one over another.

Do no harm is the only rule there is. Its the only one we need because it covers absolutely everything. The problem is that many do not see the harm they are causing because their own issues are in the way. So, it boils down to interpretation. How do you interpret harm?
