             Autobiography

From the dark abyss of cavernous grief

A loud crack echoes through the night;

The very foundation flawed

Before a single wall is built

Before her life even begins.

Without heed they build upon it,

Lazily laying their burdens upon her tiny frame.

Hands of betrayal

Fracture her spirit with each blow,

Their touch leaving prints in the stone.

Her greatest treasures lay hidden

In her inner most sanctum safe

Until pirates rape and pillage, once and again

Stealing hope, choice, and esteem

Like trusted guards pluck jewels from a chest.

And the breaking of a spirit

Is no louder than

The ripping of her clothes

Or the swish of the lone tear

That falls with her into the Void.

In the dark of the Void,

Fractures spread like mold’s growing roots.

Splitting infinitely until

The Light enters

And the splitting ceases and healing begins.

The newest wounds are quick to mend,

Their edges still neat and clean.

The oldest ones are calcified and brittle,

Needing more time in the Light

To soften and repair.

The broken edges fuse together;

The scars, like roads on a map

Telling the story of a Soul’s journey

From Darkness and Fear,

Into Light and Love.

In Light and Love it is clear

That I am not flawed or even scarred,

But instead

Beautiful beyond measure

And strongest in my broken places.

The Light for me was realizing that certain events of life are results of our choices and other certain events of life are choreographed to give us opportunities to define ourselves.

The events themselves hold no meaning other than that which we assign. This realization for me was life altering. It opened up a whole new experience of life. I had more power, control and joy than I ever had before. The super cool thing was that as I changed this perception, the things around me began to change. The events that were a result of my choices were more amazing than they were catastrophic. I learned to see the lesson in everything around me. My experience of live expanded tenfold.

Even that feeling, though, paled in comparison to those organic moments when I happen to say the one thing that enabled someone else to have that same 'aha' moment. THAT's addicting. To this day, hearing the words, "OH MY GOD! I never thought of it like that!", or "That makes so much sense!" makes me all gooey inside.

The events of your life are only HALF of your story. The other half is written by you, whether in the moment or sometimes, even years later.

Somehow we get this impression that life is meant to go a specific way with few potholes along the way. When the road gets bumpy, twisty or even treacherous at times, some can take it personally, as if ‘something’ is out to get them and that they are a victim of their circumstance.

That’s one way to write your story,

…but another is to be the hero.
